There have been questions about this subject for some time, and there have been a lot of misunderstanding about it. Anton LeVay is critical of it calling psychic vampires as leaches on society. First we must have an understanding of what psychic vampirism is. Many people have some psychic ability to draw on the emotional and psychic energy of other people. Some seek out this energy and so msnipulate it for personal strength and energy and some just appeal to the sympathetic psychic energy of others. One can easily be a parasite of this energy in other people. It is my belief that this is what LeVay refers to in his description of psychic vampirism. Many including myself who are psychic vampires do not use and apply our psychic vampirism as parastes to society. To be a psychic vampire is to have a need for the emotional energy given away from other people. For the psychic vampire, this need translates to manipulating and absorbing this energy in amounts that are barely noticeable to those that the real psychic vampire feeds from. Real psychic vampirism as I define it is a controlled nonparasitic feeding of this emotional energy from other people. This means, the psychic vampire is self sufficient and does not have the parasitic dependency that is described by some on other people. Psychic vampires are ususally well adjusted and employed and so self sufficient in society, but do feed from the emotional energies of others in controlled ways. What many confuse true psychic vampirism is the parasitic dependency that many have on the general populace of society. This form of psychic draining of people may well be found in some individuals who appeal to the sympathies of other people for economic and social gain. These people I believe are the leaches of society that LeVey refers to. These are people who are seeking the emotional sympathies of others because of their own inability to be self sufficient both socially and in economics. Real psychic vampires are identity self sufficent, and creative and have the ability to take care of themselves. These are important differences in understanding psychic vampirism.
